Maintaining Balance
A balanced lesson consists of ~
(i) Finger dexterity exercises–basic five finger dexterity lessons followed up with formal practices from exercise books of Schmitt and Hanon among others. Students work on posture, body and hand position.
(ii) Technique is developed and reinforced at each level of the student’s development.
(iii) Theory – lesson work books provide students with practice to reinforce reading and rhythm.
(iv) Repertoire development – is on going with exploration of the New and refining of the Old.
(v) Lesson Review with student to ensure that everything covered is understood and home work assignments clearly defined.
Note: The last 5–10 minutes of the teaching session is allotted for review with the student. Parents are welcomed, to sit in on the lesson summary.
